Beyond Accra: Top things to see and do while in Accra (draft)

If you have read the various blogs, seen reviews, or heard from word of mouth, Accra has one of the best attractions to see while in Ghana. Here I will give you all my top list of places to go, things to see, and things to do if you are a first time visitor to Ghana. Please keep in mind, there are numerous things you can do on a daily basis. So this list serves as a simple and basic guide you can use to navigate through the city while on your visit. Also, there is no specific order to this list. Enjoy!

1- Makola Market is a renowned market place and shopping district in the centre of Accra, Ghana. A wide array of products is sold in the markets and its surrounding streets, from car parts to land snails.
2- Oxford Street in OSU - hand made jewelry, miniature statues, clothing items, and a variety of bead accessories, Osu is the place most tourist go to get their gifts. Also stop by the Urbano Hotel for the "I Love Accra" sign!
3- Kwame Nkrumah (Independence Square) - Always forward never backwards. This historic site holds the Statue and burial site for Kwame Nkrumah.
4- Christianborg Castle (Osu Castle) - Osu Castle, also known as Fort Christiansborg is located in Osu. In its early stages, this castle was known for its contribution in the gold and ivory trade but later developed into a transport location during the slave trade.
5- Labadi Beach- Labadi Beach or more properly known as La Pleasure Beach is the busiest beach on Ghana's coast. It is one of Accra's top attraction beaches and is maintained by the local hotels.
6- Bloombar - From great music to the ambient light settings, this bar is great place to visit if you are near Osu.
7- Skybar 25 - Skybar 25 is Accra’s premier rooftop venue. It offers breathtaking views of the city from the tallest building in Ghana.

9- Coco Vanilla - This bar located in East. Legon has a great atmosphere with a pool and cabanas lounge chairs and is also connected to a lounge (Luxe). Definitely a great place for food and drinks.
10- Club Twist - One of the longest existing nightclubs, Twist has two levels and a rooftop view. During the holidays, this place is sure to be packed on all levels. If you dont mind, the long lines or crowded rooms during holiday periods, this place lives up to the hype of a top nightclub.
